Fourth Quarter Energy: How to Finish the Year Strong

What kind of energy are you bringing to your life right now?

Are you going through the motions? Are you surviving? Are you giving a little bit of effort here and there but, if you're being honest, you know you're not really all in?

Or are you bringing fourth quarter energy?

I've been talking to my team about this lately because we're heading toward the final quarter of the year, and I think there's something so powerful about deciding that it doesn't matter where you are right now. Maybe you're not as far along as you thought you'd be. Maybe this year hasn't gone according to plan. Maybe you're looking at the goals you wrote down months ago and wondering how you're possibly going to make up the ground.

Who cares? Get back in the game.

Fourth quarter energy says, I may not be where I wanted to be, but I'm going to give everything in front of me my focus, my attention, and my best effort.

I'm making the extra phone call. I'm setting the appointment. I'm taking the walk. I'm having the conversation. I'm planning the content. I'm doing the thing I know needs to be done whether I feel like doing it or not.

Because here's what I know: anything you approach casually will probably produce casual results.

You have to go all in.

And one of the biggest things keeping people from doing that is fear.

We convince ourselves we need to prepare a little longer. We need a better plan. We need to feel more confident. We need the nervousness to disappear before we finally take action.

But sometimes all that preparation is really just delay.

At some point, you have to do it scared.

Make the call you're avoiding. Have the conversation you've been dreading. Go to the appointment. Start the thing. Run straight toward the storm instead of spending another week worrying about something you know you eventually have to face anyway.

And here's something else I've learned: every time you avoid the hard thing, you're teaching yourself something about who you are.

But the opposite is also true.

Every time you honor a commitment you've made to yourself, you're building confidence.

Think about something as simple as setting your alarm because you told yourself you're going to work out in the morning. When the alarm goes off and you hit snooze over and over again, you know it. That broken commitment follows you into your day.

But when you get up anyway—even when you don't feel like it—something shifts.

You begin building a history with yourself that says, When I say I'm going to do something, I do it.

That's confidence.

And while you're doing the hard things, I want you to learn to be your own best cheerleader.

Stop waiting for somebody else to pump you up.

Talk to yourself.

Remind yourself that you're favored. You're blessed. You're equipped. You're capable. You're carrying the wisdom of the Most High God on the inside of you.

If you're walking into the meeting, remind yourself what you're carrying into that room. If you're walking onto the stage, tell yourself you're ready to own it. If you're facing something that scares you, remind yourself that you are well able.

Your spirit needs to hear your voice.

And then protect your dreams.

You do not need to tell everybody what God has put in your heart.

Everybody doesn't have the capacity to believe with you. Some people will laugh. Some will question it. Some will unintentionally drain the energy right out of the thing you're trying to build.

You need a sacred few.

You need faith friends.

People who can come alongside you when you get knocked down, when you're discouraged, or when things aren't happening as quickly as you thought they would and say, I still believe with you.

That's who gets access to the dream.

So as we move into this next season, here's my challenge for you:

Do one hard thing today.

You already know what it is.

It's probably been chirping in the back of your mind while you've been reading this.

Do it.

Even if it feels small. Even if you're nervous. Even if you're facing a mountain and the only thing you can do is take one tiny step.

Act and do it.

Then tonight, when your head hits the pillow, you get to say, I did it.

And tomorrow?

Do it again.

Because eventually the hard thing becomes easier. Your confidence muscle gets stronger. You stop sitting on the sidelines and start participating fully in your own life.

You have one life.

I want to get to the end of mine knowing I threw everything at the wall. I tried the things God put in my heart. Maybe I failed at some of them. Maybe I won at others. But I did it.

And who you become in the process of doing those things may be even more important than the outcome.

So get fourth quarter energy about your life.

  • Your family.

  • Your purpose.

  • Your dreams.

  • Your finances.

  • Your future.

Get in the game. Go all in. Make this next season count.

Your best days are ahead of you.

And remember—you truly are more.
